We’ve been exploring the subject of prayer for the last few posts. We began looking into how God wants us to pray, learned to approach God as children needing their Father, and how cynicism can get in the way of being comfortable with prayer. All of this has shown me that I don’t want my prayer life to be phony. I want to meet God the way He wants us to meet Him. If the real me was created to encounter the real God in prayer, then the Bible must have something to say about this.
A Model Prayer
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.“– Matthew 6:9-13 ESV
These are Jesus’s words, and He’s teaching His followers here how they should pray. Let’s dig in and see if we can rediscover how to meet God in a genuine, very real, no-faking-it, kind of way.
