Your Work doesn’t Define You

“So, what do you do?”

Classic opening small talk question. Depending on where you’re at in your career or employment status, this can be a very tough question to answer or even hear. Tough because our identity is far too often wrapped up in what we do for a living.

What if this was your identity?

Pauls sermon posts (2)But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.”  – (1 Peter 2:9-10 The Message)

These are God’s words, spoken through a man named Peter. Peter was a fisherman. Until God gave him a new identity. Changed his life forever. Changed mine, too.

What do I do?   We’ll get to that. Let me tell you who I am first.
