Calming the Fears

The Lord is near.   Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.   And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

– Philippians 4:6-7

phil 4;6-7When it feels like God isn’t there,  Today’s Promise reminds us that we’re not alone.  The Lord is near.  Anxiety and worry lead to a sense of lonliness,  and it becomes hard to believe that anyone is in this with us.   With that sense of lonliness comes feeling separated or isolated from God.  The Lord is near.   Then it tells us what to do.  It tells us to count our blessings and pray.   With everything I am going through right now, what is there to be thankful for?   If we honestly ask ourselves that question, we are forced to lift our eyes up off of our mess long enough to see Him.   When we look at the blessings, the positive, we can believe again.   That’s when a sense of peace calms our fears, and brings order to our chaotic emotions.  In the midst of lonliness and despair, it takes faith to remember that God is with us, and He hasn’t left us.   So, with our blessings in mind, let us just ask, “Lord, lift my heavy eyes to see you today.   Please take all of these worries under your control, and help me to believe that you are near.”

“Somewhere between my unanswered prayers and the realization that I could not worship myself into happiness, my faith died. ” – excerpt from Monica’s Story
