Living without Anxiety

“It’s a place I don’t want to ever go back to; a place of loneliness, depression, anxiety and that feeling of total worthlessness. It was a place characterized by fear. I was afraid of everything and everyone.” – excerpt from Paul’s Story

You know the feeling.  Hope is pulling us one way, and fear is pulling us another.  We are all geared up to do something, change something, make something and…nothing.   What happened?  Anxiety crept in and whispered, “You can’t change.  You’ll never be able to do it.  Everyone knows what you’ve done..”

Philippians4 6-7do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 1:64:6-7

Today’s promise reminds us that we don’t have to live a life filled with anxiety or give in to fear.  I know the feeling, and it can take over our thoughts and rationale until we are immobilized and it seeps into every decision.   There is a solution.   We can pray.   It’s that simple.  By praising God for being able to overcome our situation, by telling Him what we need, and by thanking Him for what He has already done, we open the way for His peace to flow through us.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. – Phlippians 4:6-7  MSG

When that peace overcomes the anxiety, and our thoughts do settle down, we are free.  He is bigger than our problems.  He is able to lead us through them.  We can relax and find rest.  Peace.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28
