One Man’s Story

I’m resharing this story here for you to find, my friends, and you’ll soon learn why.  It’s another rescue story, a story of a Saviour that isn’t afraid to walk into the darkest trenches to call us by name.   This is told in the author’s own words, and I hope it makes you smile, too.   Read on… – Christina

Shared from the original source: A Year

Two days ago marks a huge day in my life. A year ago on July 17 I had an encounter with God that would change my life forever. Not at all by coincidence yesterday also marks me being one year sober from the drugs that were controlling and killing me.

I wimageas depressed and riddled with panic attacks. Homeless and an addict. I’d been in and out of jail. I’d seen drugs take peoples lives. By all rights I should be dead.  Then I watched a Billy Graham special on YouTube and accepted Jesus at the end of it.

When I say I accepted Jesus I don’t mean that I decided to try to live by the bible and go to church on Sundays. I mean Jesus came down into that run down squatters house and met me where I was. I had a one on one encounter with the living God. Its real and personal and I’ll never be the same again.

How does someone go from drugs and alcohol to sobriety overnight? How can someone go from depression and panic to hope and peace? The love of Jesus. Simple as that.

In the last year I’ve been so awestruck by Jesus and the love he’s shown me and filled me with that I don’t have any room for the drugs that I used to be so consumed with. He has completely changed who I am and given me a purpose for living. He saved me from a life that lead to death to one of eternal life. My mom got to see a pastor standing over me to baptize me instead of at my eulogy.  I went from being a homeless addict to a sober heir to the Kingdom of God.

People think they have to clean up their lives to come to God. That’s crazy talk. Look where I was and the kind of life I was living. God himself declared war on the things that were hurting me and he gave me love when I couldn’t love myself. Its an absolutely beautiful thing the way Jesus can change a life.
