“Disappointment hung heavy in the air between us. Leah and I couldn’t converse, we couldn’t even look at each other. We couldn’t bear to see the disappointment and unanswered questions in each other’s eyes.”
– excerpt from Vicky’s Story.
How can God let this happen? Why would He desert us now? Those are common questions when friends are facing troubles or tragedy. He does let crisis come. It doesn’t seem to follow any kind of predictable pattern, so I don’t know why it’s this person and not that one. I do know that we learn things during crisis; how to cope, how to endure, and if we let Him show us, how to depend on God. His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and we all know that some trials can bring us right down to our knees. It’s there…when we are helpless, when we cry out to Him, that His strength carries us through. He gets the glory in that. So, if God lets the hard times come, especially if they are for our own good and to bring Him the glory, then why would He ever desert us? Today’s promise tells us that He won’t. No trouble. No hardship. No persecution. No famine. No nakedness. No danger. No sword. Nothing can separate us from His love, or the place we have with Him. Troubles may be close, but He draws in closer. We are secure. We do not have to fear. He will fight for us.
He will not desert us.
