“He couldn’t look me in the eye. In fact, he couldn’t look anyone in the eye. Have you felt that way? Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what’s eating away at us. What if we can’t look at our spouse? Our family. Our kids. Our friends. What if they see how we really are on the inside? Hurting. Helpless to make it stop. Ashamed. Guilty. So guilty.” – excerpt from Battlefield without Boundaries
Today’s Promise reminds us that we aren’t who we once were, and we don’t have to carry the shame of past regrets. We’ve all made mistakes, but God just says He’ll brush away our shame. Just brush it away. So, you’re not mad at us, God? Listen, we’ve had our share of troubles, and we’ve suffered our share of contempt because of it. Yet, instead of us being outcast, we’re lifted up, and given more. A new life and a double portion.
“Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
– Isaiah 61:7
It’s not easy to look into the eyes of someone we’ve disappointed or hurt and see their mistrust for us. Forgiveness is tricky business, and very personal. That may take some time. However, as soon as we accept Jesus into our hearts and ask for His forgiveness, we are free!
When we turn to Him full of shame and guilt, helpless to find our way out of the mess we’ve made, He loves us. He looks past what we bring Him, and wraps us in His love. He reminds us of who we are and what He created us to be
Then He calls us His own, and blesses us double. Go to Him. Just go.
